Congressman Herbert C. Klein has had a long and distinguished career in government, law and business. He is Of Counsel at law firm Genova Burns LLC. Congressman Klein is part of the President’s Council of Rutgers University, and has been on its Board of Trustees and on its Board of Overseers. He is a National Democratic Institute Council Member.
In the public sector, Congressman Klein served on the House of Representatives Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs and the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology during his tenure in the United States Congress. He has played key roles in legislation involving interstate banking and the closure of the Resolution Trust Corporation, which re-established the financial integrity of the Savings and Thrift Industry.
He served in the New Jersey Assembly, where he was Associate Majority Leader and drafted legislation creating the New Jersey Economic Development Authority. Congressman Klein also served as an official election monitor for parliamentary elections in the former Yugoslavia and in Ukraine.
In the private sector, Congressman Klein is a leader in business. He co-founded the First Real Estate Investment Trust of New Jersey, a publicly traded real estate investment company and the first of its kind in the state. Congressman Klein has served as principal and in management roles in more than 25 private real estate firms.
Congressman Klein is a leading trial lawyer, having tried more than 1,000 cases in state and federal courts, including dozens of appeals in the State Supreme Court and Appellate Division. He earned a B.A. from Rutgers University, a J.D. from Harvard Law School, and an L.L.M. from New York University.
